FIX THE DEBT

Most highly informed people don’t exactly know the difference between the national debt and our country’s deficit, much less how important paying down the national debt is to our economy. To help the organization Fix The Debt overcome both of those challenges, two campaigns were created, produced and deployed. The first, called “Parody,” used the looks and feels of various well-known advertising campaigns to capture audiences’ attention. From ads that looked like Nike ads to those that looked like Home Depot or Dunkin’ Donuts ads, the campaign—very different from most DC-based ad campaigns—broke through successfully enough to win five Pollies concurrently. At the same time, a complementary campaign, “Debt Gets in the Way,” brought the national debt’s real-life impacts to light in print and specially targeted Metro station take-overs.
